托福单独写作常见俗语

标点是协助文字记录语言的表达标记，都是英语作文不可或缺的一部分。托福写作电子评分标准(E-rater)也是把标点(punctuation)的应用纳入了评定标准之一。那样，今日，就让我们一起来学习一下英语写作中几类常用标点符号的规范使用吧！
【逗号】Comma
逗号主要运用于隔开英语单词、语句、状语从句或者一些特殊句法结构，是在写作中最常用的一种标点。各位同学们应当都不陌生它使用方法，但还有一些问题需要注意哦：
1. 非限制性定语从句中，一定要在状语从句前加逗号，which才可以泛指一整个语句
E.g. Some teachers may not be interested in teaching a class with more low-level students, which might lead to unnecessary troubles.
2. 留意尽量不要用逗号来并排2个详细语句
3. 当用and并排三个及三个之上英语单词或者语句时，在and的前边必须再加上逗号。这类逗号被称作oxford comma，关键的作用是为了减轻句中的分歧
E.g. In order to prevent global warming, many countries are now trying to reduce their output of carbon dioxide, use renewable energy sources, and increase green areas.
【灶具】Colon
灶具在英语写作中的重要用法和在汉语写作中十分类似，分为两种主要用途：
1. 针对灶具前边的信息进行例举，等同于including/such as...
E.g. Three teachers reach the final: Catherine, Richard, James.
2. 对语句第一部分中难以理解的信息进行详细说明
E.g. This is what I want to know: what are they doing there?
【分号】Semi-colon
分号在托福单独写作中应用得比较经常，尤其是在长句子的写作中。
1. 用分号并排2个或多个相等均衡的单独子句，使衔接更为紧凑，有时候可制造出“排比句”的感觉了
E.g. Without Wright’s challenging dream, how could people conquer the sky;without Edison’s challenging dream, how could people light up the dark night?
2. 将分号用于联接介词以前
E.g. Nowadays, rushing nonstop from home to schools is a common 台湾本能恒泰 practice for most students;however, setting a late school day will grant students more leisure time.
3. 与that is, namely, for example一起使用，这类使用方法在托福综合性写作的帖子之中发生过
E.g. Genetically modified trees are designed to be hardier than nature trees;that is, they are more likely to survive than their unmodified counterparts. (TPO21)
【破折号】Em dash
写作时，应用破折号通常旨在强调或注重具体内容。在使用过程中，两边并没有空格符，立即出现在了句中，二种用法较为常见：
1. 做为表明或例举
E.g. On the table lay several letters—one from Jerry and another from Tom.
2. 作为一种表述
E.g. In one’s teenage time—widely agreed a critical period for minting his social identity and temperaments—he probably tends to follow the footprints of those heroes or heroins.
*尤其需要注意的是：wins系统带有的英文电脑输入法是很难搞出标准的英文破折号的，ios系统数字键盘边上的短横线连按2次会一键生成破折号。但是由于托福考场的计算机多以wins系统为主导，所以才强烈推在日本能买台湾股票吗荐同学们在考试的时候应用破折号，能用作用相似的括弧取代。
【括弧】Parentheses
前文讲过括弧的用法与破折号是最相似的，主要运用于：
1. 举例子
E.g. John had some injuries(a cut lip, bruised shoulder, slightly burned legs)that kept him in the ER for a few hours.
2. 表述
E.g. The Sahara Desert (the world’s largest)is located in North Africa.
但是与破折号的注重功效不一样的是，括弧通常会给人一种“一笑了之”的感觉了。
【引号】Quotation mark
引号，说白了，自然就是用以引入。在托福单独写作中，大家通常会将引号用于名言名句或者俗语的引出来中。
E.g. As an old saying goes, “Many hands make light work.”
John Dewey once said, “Education is the fundamental method of social progress and reform.”
也有几个难题需要注意：
1. 与汉语引号不一样的是，英语“前引号”最前面一般是“逗号”而非“灶具”
2. 引号与中间具体内容中间也是不空格符的，句点往往会在“后引号”的结构
3. 放进引号中的语句，句首词汇的首字母大写必须英文大写
4. 假如引用句中还有引用句，那么就要用单引号(E.g. George explained, “I heard her 台湾本能是真假 say, ‘Go away!’ so I left.”)，一般，英式英语先双后单，英式发音先单后双。但是，这类用法通常出现在了英文小说中，托福单独写作考试时非常少使用这类用法哦。
